Is the RTX 2070 Still Good in 2026? Performance, DLSS and Upgrades

Is the RTX 2070 Future-Proof in 2024? A Gamer's Guide
Quick answer: Yes, for 1080p gaming. The RTX 2070 still gets Game Ready drivers, supports DLSS 4 upscaling, and has the ray tracing hardware some new games now require. TechSpot measured 109 fps in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on its basic preset. The limits are 8GB of VRAM and no DLSS Frame Generation, which needs an RTX 40 or 50 card.

The RTX 2070 is from 2018, but unlike the GTX 10 series it has RT and Tensor cores. That one difference is why it’s aged much better.

RTX 2070 specs

Spec RTX 2070
Architecture Turing
CUDA cores 2,304
Memory 8GB GDDR6, 256-bit
Power 175W
Launch October 17, 2018, from $499 ($599 Founders Edition)

How it performs today

TechSpot retested the card against its successor in RTX 2070 vs RTX 3070. The RTX 3070 was 55% faster on average at 1080p. The 2070 still did fine in lighter-running games, including 109 fps in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 using the basic preset.

Demanding new releases are where you’ll drop to low or medium settings and lean on DLSS. 8GB of VRAM is the other limit at higher texture settings. Our guide on whether 8GB of VRAM is enough covers what to turn down.

DLSS 4 and ray tracing support

NVIDIA’s DLSS 4 announcement says the new transformer model for upscaling and Ray Reconstruction works on all GeForce RTX cards, including the RTX 20 series. Frame Generation needs an RTX 40 or 50 card, and Multi Frame Generation is RTX 50 only.

The ray tracing hardware matters more than it used to. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle requires it, and its Steam page lists an RTX 2060 Super as the minimum NVIDIA card. The 2070 clears that bar. A GTX 1080 doesn’t.

Driver support

Turing is still on NVIDIA’s Game Ready driver track. NVIDIA’s support plan moved the older Maxwell, Pascal and Volta GPUs to security-only updates from October 2025, but RTX 20 and GTX 16 cards weren’t part of that change.

When to upgrade

Upgrade if you play new releases above 1080p, if you keep running out of VRAM, or if you want Frame Generation. The Intel Arc B580 and current RTX 50 entry cards both bring more memory or newer DLSS features. Prices have moved a lot in 2026, so check a live tracker such as Tom’s Hardware’s GPU price list first.

If you’re happy at 1080p, keep it, keep it clean, and watch temperatures. Our thermal paste guide helps if it’s running hotter than it used to.

FAQ

Is the RTX 2070 still good for gaming?

Yes at 1080p. It still gets Game Ready drivers and DLSS 4 upscaling, though demanding new games need lower settings.

Does the RTX 2070 support DLSS 4?

It supports the DLSS 4 transformer model for upscaling and Ray Reconstruction. Frame Generation needs an RTX 40 or 50 card.

How much faster is the RTX 3070 than the RTX 2070?

TechSpot measured the RTX 3070 about 55% faster on average at 1080p.

Can the RTX 2070 run Indiana Jones and the Great Circle?

It meets the minimum. The game requires ray tracing hardware and lists an RTX 2060 Super as the minimum NVIDIA GPU.
