What Is Primal Reversion in Pokémon Go?
Primal Reversion is a special kind of mega energy that can transform selected Pokémon. This transformation can be a new appearance, additional powers, abilities, or enhanced battle performances. This feature debuted during the Pokémon Go Tour: Hoenn- Las Vegas.
Only two Pokémon are using Primal Reversion to upgrade themselves, Kyogre and Groudon. They will transform into Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon. This energy can stay up to 8 hours and fades off after leaving the beasts in their standard form. Also, your Pokémon will utilize less Primal Energy the more it experiences Primal Reversion.

How To Activate Primal Reversion in Pokémon Go?
To activate Primal Reversion, you need to have Primal Energy. There are three ways to get Primal Energy in Pokémon Go.
- Defeating Primal Kyogre.
- Defeating Primal Groudon.
- Completing specific Field Research Tasks.
You will need 400 Primal Energy to activate the Primal Reversion of Kyogre and Groudon. Collecting enough Primal Energy will take time and effort, but the result is worth it. Once you have collected enough Primal Energy, log in to your Pokémon Go account and check the Primal Level Icon. You can find the Primal Level of the Pokémon and other rewards there.
When a Pokémon undergoes Primal Reversion, a unique type bonus called Primal Levels appears. A Pokémon’s Primal Level increases with the frequency of Primal Reversion. The Primal Level also doesn’t start over when Primal Reversion ceases. Remember that you can only raise a Pokémon’s Primal Level once daily.

Primal Reversion Bonuses in Pokémon Go
You can get these bonuses for Kyogre and Groudon.
- Primal Kyogre – in your party: Water-, Electric-, and Bug-type attacks will benefit from attack bonuses in raids.
- Primal Kyogre – as your buddy: catching Water-, Electric-, and Bug-type Pokémon will grant you additional XP and Candy.
- Primal Groudon – in your party: Fire-, Grass-, and Ground-type attacks will benefit from attack bonuses in raids.
- Primal Groudon – as your buddy: catching Fire-, Grass-, and Ground-type Pokémon will grant you additional XP and Candy.
