To start the side quest, The Hero’s Journey, go to the columns under the pier’s south side. You’ll find our brave lifeguard, Burt, with Rita, a real fighter.
While you were looking for Burt’s lucky torp, Burt saved Rita’s life from a zombie attack. But the attack hurt him so severely that it gave him fatal injuries. So now it’s up to you to find the lucky torp before it’s too late and give it to him before he dies as a true hero.

How to Complete the Pier side quests Hero’s Journey in Dead Island 2?
These are the steps to finish the mission.
- Listen for Burt and Rita’s cries for help to find them.
- Speak with Burt. He’ll need you to take Rita to the Lifeguard HQ. Clear a path for them.
- Make your way to the public toilets searching for Burt’s lucky torp. These toilets are across the beach in the military zone.
- Go to the Lifeguard Headquarters. Make your way over to the Lifeguard HQ tower close and into the safe zone at the top. Deliver Burt’s lucky torp.
- Where’s Burt? Ask Rita
- Rush to the beach to save Burt. Look for a blue lifeguard hut like the one where you first met Burt on Venice Beach.
- Get rid of all the zombies around the lifeguard hut and enter.
- Go to Burt and talk to him.
